Snap happy

Guess what! (You might actually guess it right)
- I got my camera yesterday!  *Insert childish squeals of delight / overenthusiastic waves of excitement a' la Kermit the frog (see here)*

Finally, some way of capturing moments & pretty sights without the incessant need to "Switch camera off and on" because the camera is struggling to do what it was made for! Sorry, do I sound mean and impatient? Well, pink camera, you're now demoted to festivals and sandy beach days, take that!
Tiny note: (Yes, yes I do talk to inanimate objects. Don't we all?)

I'm so happy to bring you, lovely blog readers, some decent quality snaps such as those above.
As I'm just learning how to properly use a camera, they can only get better from here! Be very excited. And feel free to share any tips or stories from your own experiences at photography!

Photos explained in order:
- Daisy tries to lick the hands of anyone who comes near
- Snout of Daisy
- A wasp's nest. It's so fascinating being able to watch their activity up close with a macro lens!
- A mossy tree, taken by Tom.
- I saw this wire hanging on our shed and loved its beautiful circular lines. The blur of leaves behind the focus is what I like most.... I think that's a dead cicada attached to it.
- My dog Jaz, eyes wide open
- Me standing in the what we call 'the green room'
- A pinecone.

If you can't walk in heels, you may as well not have a vagina

Don't worry, I am totally joking with the title.
Confession time: I'm twenty-one and I can't walk in stilettos.
I can cope with wedges or a chunky heel, but even in those, my feet are bound to be aching within hours. I know I'm probably not alone on this, but it still bugs me a little when I'm lusting for some pretty shoes with dramatic flair such as those pictured below (source: Asos.com):

These eBay babies were $24.50 - not great quality, but I like their look! Sort of like a classier version of the worker boot. And thrown on with a casual outfit like this, they're great to practice in. I sound like a 17 year old, right? Because most people should've either mastered walking in heels, or given up.... Hmm, nah.
Instead I've forced myself to endure at least seven nights of discomfort in heels so far, in between the ages of 18-21, and as my latest purchase indicates, I don't think I'm ready to quit yet!

Loitering in the alleyways

Aloha, readers! :)

You may have noticed that many of the outfit photos I've posted for you in the past have been shot in my backyard, making me look as though I simply get dressed up and take a photo, before returning to watching TV and eating Easy Mac in my pajamas - hey, I'm not arguing that this isn't a great lifestyle!
But I can assure you, I do get out, I'm just a little put off by the idea of taking photos in public. I feel stupid enough posing in my backyard, let alone trying to choose the right amount of 'seductiveness' or 'sweet ignorance' in my face whilst curious onlookers watch with amusement.

To strengthen the matter, the last time I decided to take a couple of outfit photos was a bit of a joke. Here's a little recount for your own amusement...

Sunday evening, Tom and I were on a quick dash to the supermarket (to buy a box of 24 vanilla Drumsticks, no less!) and we finished our shopping before choosing a spot behind the Target complex. I liked the look of their scruffy backdoor; and, ironically, found the "Strictly No Parking at any Time" sign to be inviting.
However, it was around shop closing time, and just as I had leaned against the door and struck a 'Ohhh I'm bored, I might stare at that bush over there' pose, with my neck tilted dramatically to the side,
a man inside started pushing on the door in a struggle to get out. I stepped away, and he wheeled his bike out, saying "Hello" in a low monotone response to Tom's greeting. In embarrassment, I didn't make eye contact at all.

We tried to continue taking photos once the man and his bike had passed us, but he was watching us in suspicion as he slowly walked down the road, and it was so incredibly awkward. So we bailed.

After that little event, I just wanted anywhere to quickly snap the photos and leave.

So here's the product of that - my casual shopping attire, against a hurriedly chosen wall with minimal decor (see photos below). But luckily, I like it, don't you? Still beats the old backyard :).

Tijuana Cartel

It's a Friday night at the local Settler's Tav. A lively crowd of people buzz around the room, many clutching bright orange tickets. Enter: one DJ, pushing buttons and looking out blankly at the bar where 'everyone' stands, drinking and talking loudly.
No, what? Please exit, DJ, we're all here waiting for Tijuana Cartel!

I myself have not even heard one song from this band before, but on a recommendation, Tom and I are here, and actually, we have a friend. (She ends up leaving us and bailing on the gig two songs in, but that's irrelevant - we now officially know someone other than my rellies in Margaret River).

Despite our tickets stating that Tijuana Cartel will be playing at nine PM, it's now ten and we're showing the signs of impatience. Looking around awkwardly, sipping drinks ferociously until they're drained, and then eating the ice... you know. The poor DJ leaves the stage for a moment, and suddenly people are by the stage, jigging about to whatever track he's left on...
A guy in a beanie lifts his arms in the air before doing a little air punching; a girl with scruffy long hair takes some dancy kind of strides with her legs high in the air and her neck jutting in and out to the beat - oh, like an ostrich, I'd say.
And then there is this splendorous woman - short, in her thirties, looking like she stepped out of the 70s with her blue and white paisley patterned body-con dress. She has a wild afro-like mane, and man she is not holding back as she claims her own patch of carpet with some dangerous hair flicking and hip thrusting. With her fiesty attitude clear in facial expressions that I can only describe as very similar to the picture below -

- she is 'the life of the party'; she probably could've even worn a sash and no one would've disagreed.

Finally, just before ten-thirty hits, there are instruments on stage and five guys to hold them. One of these guys is, amazingly enough, the DJ. They get to it, asking the crowd if they're ready to party with them tonight, and heck yes we are. With a guitar, trumpet, bongo drums, and whatever electronics the DJ is rockin' with, T.C. kick up a Latin inspired rhythm that gets the crowd swinging their hips and swaying their arms in beautifully natural movements.

As this occurs around me, I'm sort of swaying on the spot and wondering how to join in. See, my style of dancing is, as Tom puts it, "violent". He says he can spot me on the dance floor by looking for what seems to be a bar fight - lots of "flailing limbs".
And tonight I'm stuck - the purely instrumental songs are just too sexy and exotic to be accidently butting people with my elbows.

So suddenly, I'm trying to call in the curves that I often like to ignore in all their outrageous femininity, and I'm busting some shaky moves that I've never busted before. I'm a little awkward with my feet, trying to do some sort of salsa step that makes my shoes slip off; but otherwise, I've got some funky hand movements, and a whole lot of sexy hip swaying. I've definitely got this! Tom immediately grabs my hand.

Just as I'm comfortable, vocals kick in...
"I said ladaaaay....
You've got to riiise up
(I said-ah rise-ah rise-ah rise)"
and soon after that, some rapping bumps up the set. In a split second, people are jumping up and down and all over the place like they just crossed the border into Mosh City. There's still a bit of Latin swaying in the arms, and that crazy lady is still all disco booty, but the vibe is really different to how it started, and it kind of feels like an all night rave, but with more exotic tones and no glowsticks.

DJ man, on the left

Tom begins to finds his groove a lot easier with the beats being thrown out strong and fast, and he's actually, honestly, dancing. A very rare moment; only the second I've ever witnessed in my time dating him. Sure he's throwing himself around like one usually would to heavy metal music, and he almost bowls over a tall gentleman standing in front of us, but he's grinning and not caring what he looks like, and that is awesome. I look at DJ man, and he's gotten creative - giving the music some quirky sounds by blowing into a tube that's attached to his equipment.

Rapper, centre stage

The guy rapping on vocals centre-stage is amusing to watch; he's muscular, with a cap on, and wears a pretty stern expression at times which greatly adds to the interest in his own dance moves. He stands to one side, with a frown and pout face directed at us, and swings his arms strongly in front of him as he leans back. Comical for sure, but not so much that it interferes with the idea of the band simply thriving on their sounds. Tijuana Cartel are brilliantly enthusiastic artists, and once you've even slightly discovered the art of letting your hips direct your dancing, I can guarantee you're going to have a lot of fun.

If you like, you can check out one of their YouTube vids - featuring one of the slower sort of songs - here:

Outfit of the day night...

So! With my review over, this is what I wore...a jeans and layered top combo, complete with a last minute necklace bottle opener strung on a tatty ribbon around my neck. It happens to feature a angry fish figure. Oh yeah.
That stringy vest thing you see was once a plain black tee, until I got bored and cut it up.

That's all I got for now, hope you enjoyed the music!

Silly me

In reference to my last post, THIS is what I should have worn....

Because for a moment there, I stupidly forgot we are living in MARGARET RIVER - home of the hippies. No one need dress up in monotone, uncomfortable clothes, ever!

By the way, my mum had a quick look at my blog and told me that I have no shame in whichever pictures I upload of myself - the last ones "make you look like a B-grade Russian mail order bride". Haha yeah true fact.

And oh! Look at all the cool stuff I got from my induction -

Two uniform shirts, an apron, a staff name tag which titles me "Zannia Yates" (not my last name at all!), and a whole lot of rules & regulation papers...

There's a page on frequently asked questions, which I appreciate, because said questions are answered with a certain amount of zazz.
Where can I smoke? for example, is answered with:
"Please do not smoke! It is bad for you."
and
I have friends coming, can I put out a picnic blanket for them? is answered with,
"NO. Any blankets and/or chairs laid out on the lawn before the general public enter the arena will be taken away and stored in the nearest bush."

So yep. I'm sorry for my unattractive pictures earlier, but damn my induction went well, even if I looked like a dweeb :D. Most of the people there (around 30 or 40 workers) had done the concerts in previous years, so I was one of the few newbies. Everyone takes the whole thing very seriously, but all in good nature, and they're all enthusiastic about the event. Heaps glad I applied, it should be fun!

How to dress for a job interview and not look like a dag... I'm still working on it

Today I'm having the biggest wardrobe struggle. Seriously. In four hours I have an induction for a waitress position at a wine estate - the job is just for one night, when they host a huge "world class" concert and gazillion course meal for $700 a head.... you know, the usual.
And I don't know what to wear.
A) Because it's so hot
and
B) Because pairing blacks and whites should be simple, but it's SO HARD when you're forced to wear a particular type of daggy shoe which stands out even more...

The first reason is the main cause of my struggle, I guess - because I had a shirt and skirt picked out before this day. But now that this day has arrived, and with it: blistering, sweaty heat, I'm not so sure. Does anyone else have a phobia of thighs getting sweaty and rubbing together? I just hate that.

So here is what I went through.... and, don't laugh... :P:

Outfit attempt #1: I feel so boyish right now.... with cut off legs...

Wearing this headband makes me feel a touch more girly & glam.

Outfit #2: All black. Like this skirt, but it's maybe a tad short. The top doesn't have much shape to it :/.

Thought my legs might look longer if I wore tiny socks..... No. Way.
Hurriedly took them off again before I felt too much like my Croatian great-aunty in her flesh stockings and shoes way too similar to these...

Outfit #3: Back to the socks, and a longer skirt.... Still don't like the top - my middle looks too undefined

Outfit #4: Ideally, I'd wear this! Nice and cool, and somewhat in line with my style. But a singlet/lace is not so appropriate for a job induction.

Outfit #5: So this is the outfit that I had planned all along, but the shirt really is uncomfortably hot when wearing it. It's made of cotton & elastane, with no breathing through the material. This outfit seems the best, but I don't want to die of heat and the embarrassment of drowning in my own sweat.

So in conclusion, I guess I'm going to go with one of the two last outfits. And really, I haven't given you any advice at all. In fact, maybe I actually asked YOU "How to dress for a job interview and not look like a dag"??????
What would you suggest if you were in my situation?
Maybe you prepare yourself days in advance. Maybe you own surprisingly cute shoes for a waitress/bartender environment.
Feel free to comment and tell me where I'm going wrong.

For now, see you later, I'm going to the beach to forget about sweaty tops for an hour.... gahhhh.

Ni Hao, Knee Highs

Hey, just a quick outfit post.
Sorry if the image quality is less than brillo - I took them off my Chictopia account.

So these are my new kne- oh.... I guess they are actually meant to be called 'thigh high' socks, which ruins my post title, damn! Oh well :P the point is, I like these socks and I was excited to receive them in the mail despite them just being plain and black, because they were cheeeeappp!

End of story.

Hope you are cruising along sweetly, and we shall have more one way convos very soon (UNLESS you feel like commenting on my blog then it will surely be a proper conversation :) ).
